North Platte, NE July 11-12, 2009

Reunion Schedule and Info

The published schedule is here.

Here are a bunch of extra details including advice and driving directions from Gail Jergensen and the Reunion Committee.

FRIDAY July 10
The optional, Dutch-treat gathering at Butch's Steakhouse is planned for those who arrive inNorth Platte by Friday and want to join other early arrivals for some visiting.

SATURDAY July 11
Location:
The Lincoln County Fairgrounds is at (or about) 5015 West Highway 30. To reach this location, drive about 2.5 miles north of Interstate Hwy 80 on US Hwy 83 (Jeffers Street in town) to 12th Street (also US Highway
30) and then drive about 3.5 miles west on US Hwy 30 to the Fairgrounds. Bud Gale usually places a sign at the turn-off; look for it on the right side of the road.

We will be meeting in Centennial Hall at the Fairgrounds, as we did 2 years ago. This building is east and south (about 100 yards) from the Fairgrounds building where we had previously met for may years. An auction is scheduled nearby on Saturday and other people may be parking near Centennial Hall. If in doubt about whether they are your relatives, hug them first and ask questions later. This technique works
for Uncle William.

Kids activities:
We will have a few games, puzzles, and toys for kids up to age 12 to share. We don't have a nursery or separate game room. Plan to help out a bit with supervision, if your children/grandchildren want to join in.
Laura Jergensen will coordinate these arrangements and will welcome your help. Some folks may want to take their kids to Cody Park for some outdoor activities. Ask around, if you don't know where the park is or
what activities are available there.

Teen activities:
Del and Amanda Blue have offered (or been volunteered) to coordinate some activities for teens. Check with them to see what options there are.

Other age groups:
Tutoring in Pre-emptive Hugging for Beginners will be available from any number of previous attendees, especially Uncle William. Ask around, if interested.

Photos and Gale memorabilia:
Bring your picture albums and plan to review what other people bring. If you have pictures on CD, VCR, DVD, PDA, RADAR, or other electronic media, bring them along. We plan to connect some equipment to allow such media to be seen informally during the day Saturday.

Yarns and outright lies:
Gary Jergensen will coordinate this informal activity, especially after exploring local green and sandy areas with various cousins -- who will also attest to incredible happenings, both ancient and recent. But if
you really want old Gale lore, try to provoke Uncle William, Uncle Al, Uncle Bud, Aunt Pat, or Aunt Ruth into topping each other 's stories. (Hint: Ask questions in the presence of any two or more of these
folks. Begin your questions with "How far..." and "How many..." and "How long ago..." and "What kind of trouble did Uncle so-and-so most enjoy?")

Talent program:
After supper Saturday evening, we share songs, skits, stories, skills, and occasional accusations of prowess. If you don't volunteer to participate, you may be asked anyway. Be prepared. Waxed paper will be
available, but bring your own comb.

Photo opportunities:
Bring your camera. Expect to see family groupings. Expect to be in one or more such groupings. Plan to take some pictures both Saturday and Sunday -- some folks may not attend both days AND some relatives will
naturally look better on Sundays.

SUNDAY July 12
Chapel -- a very special time after breakfast Expect to sing some familiar songs and choruses
Enjoy some special music -- instrumental and vocal Hear Uncle William's devotional message
Rejoice and worship with your extended family

MEALS
The food committee is working on meal responsibilities. If you were not recruited to help with a specific meal, remember that Kitchen Help is always welcome! And cash contributions can be arranged! Girard and Amy Jergensen have volunteered to prepare a Pancake/Waffle breakfast for Saturday morning (a meal that we have not usually scheduled for the reunions, since we figured only the golfers would be
getting up before mid-morning on Saturday).Saturday lunch is usually a sandwich buffet, allowing for a wide meal window for people who are driving in on Saturday.
